A Family Matter

A few weeks ago was the hardest, most trying time for my family. My mother passed away the day before super typhoon Haiyan (also known as Yolanda in the Philippines) hit the Visayas region. What hurts the most is that she passed away before my birthday. We had plans for my birthday. I was to make simple dinner and our all-time favorite, Mango Float, upon her request. Sadly, she didn't get to taste them.

The passing of mom was hard on us, but I know that she has found peace from all her suffering. But the loneliness and the void is just hard to bare. It's easy to deal with grief and pain during the day when we're all busy with work and chores. When night creeps in, however, we could feel that she's no longer with us in the world.

I take comfort from The Book of Mormon (which is another testament of Jesus Christ and a supplement to the Holy Bible) verse, Mosiah 16: 8-9, in which it says:

"But there is a resurrection, therefore the grave hath no victory and the sting of death is swallowed up in Christ."

"He is the light and the life of the world; yea, a light that is endless, that can never be darkened; yea, and also in a life which is endless, that there can be no more death."

Cancer may have taken my mom away from us physically, but I know death has no victory over her because of the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ. His sacrifice has given my family and I the hope that someday we will be reunited with her. Forever.

 p.s.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank families, friends, neighbors and church members who lent support, sent flowers and cards as well as prayers. You know who you are. Thank you. From the bottom of my heart.
